Not that bad. No structural damage, just had yo hammer the radiator support flat so headlights will mount straight. Heading to the junkyard tomorrow to source replacement panels.

In the meantime, I’ve already listed the car and will relist when it’s put back together.

This gen of Focus is a decent car. I’ve got almost 200K on mine, and still ticking along. Since the original air filter is removed, are you just going with an aftermarket cone filter? I pulled the original filter from my car, and it ran much better with the aftermarket filter I put on it. A real simple job too.

Auction went up to $175, so $363 after fees. I’m going to the junkyard tomorrow (40% off!) to get panels to get this road legal again, then I’ll... probably do this again, but with a VW.

I pulled the factory airbox and stuff off as the plastic was broken. I’m going to get a factory airbox from the factory, just keep it stock. I’ll likely sell this as soon as it’s road legal. We were playing with it on jack stands (you know, trying to make the rotors glow, standard stuff) and it makes some good induction noises with the silencer and lower airbox off.

Nah, that’s just the radiator support and headlight mount bracket. I took that picture before I popped it with a hammer a few times. It’s back in the right place. It isn’t a stressed member and I can’t see it being something designed to crumple in a crash. This is fine. Nothing was broken suspension wise, either. I think it was totalled out because it’s a higher mile 13 year old compact with rusty rockers and because it was already totalled once before.

I mean, I gotta learn how to do something like this on a car that is shit, like an auto first gen Focus, before I do it with something that’s not shit, like a 98 Jetta.

And, for the record, only 3 of my 5 cars are VWs.

Especially the updated 1st gen as shown (2005-2007) with the Duratec 2.0 and  a manual transmission, if rust doesn’t kill the car and general maintenance is kept up, it’ll last forever.

A bonus is the fantastic chassis hidden under the bodywork that LOVES to play in the curves. These really are terrific econoboxes.

Eh. The junkyard has a car in a close color but it’s not exact. Close enough. If it’s not close enough I’ll just get black panels. I’ll probably sell this in a few weeks so I’m not too hung up on aesthetics.

Reminds me of the sentra I snagged last year for $225 on copart . Put about $200 into it and managed to get $2k from some very sketchy individuals. Best of luck fixing up the focus!

All the junkyard panels are bolted up as of a half hour ago. Gonna get it inspected then post some more pics. Should sell pretty quick.
